Jerrod Niemann stopped by morning show Fox & Friends to perform his patriotic new song "Old Glory" on Monday (Nov. 12). Niemann and guitarist Tim Teague, whose son serves in the Marines, performed an enthusiastic acoustic version of the song in honor of Veterans Day, which took place on Sunday (Nov. 11).

Niemann previously described the song as "100% heart, 0% politics."

"So don't tread on me or my memory/ I fight for you so that you're free/ We've never met but bet I'll do it again/ And I'll lose my mind, I'll give my life/ if that's what it costs for that flag to fly/ And I'll wear it proud like all the others before me/ Why the hell you think they call it 'Old Glory?'" he sings in the chorus.

Niemann has spent significant time performing for and visiting with soldiers stationed overseas as part of USO tours. In an interview after the performance, Niemann tells co-host Steve Doocy he wrote the song after hearing news of the Oct. 4, 2017, Tongo Tongo ambush in Niger. The ambush took the lives of five Nigerian troops and four American soldiers.

"I just thought about those young people I had met, and it just fell out on the couch," Niemann says.

Niemann also performed the song a week earlier during halftime of the Dallas Cowboys Monday Night Football game.

The singer-songwriter first debuted "Old Glory" for troops during the 2017 USO Holiday Tour. He released the studio version of the song on Oct. 12, 2018. He also helped launch the Connect and Create program, a partnership between his charity, Freedom Music USA, and the USO that puts guitars in base with a USO.
