John King is preparing to release his latest single, and he's letting Taste of Country readers hear it first.

King turns introspective for his new single, "Try Saying Goodbye," which is set for release on Friday (Jan. 25). The mid-tempo song explores the universal difficulties of negotiating love relationships, pairing a ballad verse with a more rock-influenced chorus.

"Hey, nobody said love is easy / And I know it can be kinda hard to swallow your pride / If you thought 'sorry' was the hardest word you were ever gonna have to say to her / In your whole life / Try saying goodbye," King sings in the chorus.

King co-wrote "Try Saying Goodbye" with Paul DiGiovanni. He admits the song springs from his own experience.

“This is hands down one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written," King says. "Looking back, there were so many times I almost let my pride get in the way of what was really important. Sometimes saying sorry seems like the hardest thing to do when you’re in an argument (usually over something that isn’t even a big deal). When we wrote this song, I tried to imagine what it would have been like if I would have said goodbye by letting my pride get the best of me. I would have missed out on so many blessings in my life.”

The Georgia native has been making big inroads in country music over the past few years. The former construction worker scored a Top 40 hit with his debut single, "Tonight, Tonight," in 2014, which earned exposure as part of Thursday Night Football that season. He scored his first No. 1 single as a songwriter with Randy Houser's "We Went" in 2016, and he's also written for Craig Morgan.

King's strong touring base earned him a management deal with Narvel Blackstock of Starstruck Entertainment, who has shepherded the careers of Reba McEntire, Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson, among others. He signed a major publishing deal with Sony/ATV in 2018, and he's been working toward releasing new music since then.
