These days it seems like every recognizable actor above the age of 50 is getting their own spin on the Taken franchise. As a result, not a lot of people batted an eye when it was announced that Keanu Reeves would be playing a retired contract killer in some mid-range action movie called John Wick. Imagine our collective surprise, then, when John Wick was not only not another Taken clone, but one of the best action movies of the decade. Fans were quick to clamor for another glimpse at the violent action and posh criminal underworld of the first film.

And now, thanks to New York Comic-Con, we have a brand new teaser trailer and, oh man, is it good. While the new trailer gives us a lot more of what we loved from the first movie  —  close quarters gunfights are becoming the cinematic equivalent of smelling salts for me  —  it does raise a few questions. Who would be stupid enough to mess with John Wick again after he murdered his way through New York City in the last film? What happened to his new dog? As our own Erin Whitney shared on Twitter, the new movie is also set a mere four days after the events of the first John Wick, so what crime lord crawled his or her way out of the ashes to keep Wick in the fight?

While John Wick might have wowed fans with its gunfights first and foremost, what has me most excited for the sequel is the opportunity to dive back into the world-building of the first film. John Wick gave us only glimpses at an extensive and global underworld of arms dealers and professional killers; while the action sequences with Keanu Reeves will undoubtedly deliver, I for one cannot wait to see how big and far the crime syndicate of the first film goes. Here’s to the early front-runner for 2017’s best action movie.

Here’s the full plot synopsis for John Wick Chapter 2:

Keanu Reeves returns in the sequel to the 2014 hit as legendary hitman John Wick who is forced to back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins’ guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome where he squares off against some of the world’s deadliest killers.

In addition to Keanu Reeves, the film will bring back Ian McShane, Bridget Moynahan, John Leguizamo, and Lance Reddick, and include newcomers CommonLaurence Fishburne, Peter Stormare, and Ruby Rose. John Wick Chapter 2 will shoot its way into theaters on February 10, 2017.
