After attending an innocent party over the weekend, singer/actress Julianne Hough found loads of controversy for her Halloween costume. And now, even her brother, Derek Hough, admits it wasn't her brightest moment.

The 'Dancing With the Stars' champ tells E! that his sister is "mortified" at the intense backlash she has received for donning blackface at a Halloween party on Friday (Oct. 25). "She's so apologetic," he reveals. "She's so so sorry and I just hope that we can all forgive her and move on."

Miss Hough already apologized for her misjudgment, but now all she can do is wait out the storm that's still brewing regarding her actions. In the meantime, her brother is determined to let the public know what he thinks -- that he doesn't agree with her choice of costume, but supports her nonetheless.

"She's my little baby sister and she's the sweetest thing ever ... she is just beyond beside herself," Hough says.

He adds, in typical big brother fashion, "Obviously, it wasn't her brightest moment in her life, but hopefully we can move on."

This will unfortunately be a Halloween the Hough family will remember for a long time. Hopefully, the singer won't be too spooked by her mistake for future holidays, but maybe next time she'll double check her costume with her big brother.
