On Saturday (May 12), Kacey Musgraves took to the Saturday Night Live stage for the first time ever, with performances of her songs, "High Horse" and "Slow Burn," onstage in New York City. Both songs come from the country star's newest studio album, Golden Hour.

For her first appearance, Murgraves followed the disco theme that inspired "High Horse," donning wide-legged blue pants with a rainbow stripe down the sides and performing under a glittering saddle that was hung from the ceiling like a disco ball. The singer has said she was on a "huge Bee Gees kick"while creating Golden Hour, and was interested in blending the music of the '70s with modern-day country for the project.

Those themes were still present, but much subtler, when she returned to perform the ballad "Slow Burn," as the focus shifted to a more acoustic performance. Musgraves played an acoustic guitar as she sang, with her backing band performing on more classically country instruments such as a banjo and a fiddle. The backdrop reflected an old-fashioned take on New York City's Grand Central Station, complete with wood paneling and lit gas lanterns.

Earlier in the weekend, in advance of the show, the country star appeared in a promo alongside this week's host, Amy Schumer, as well as cast member Aidy Bryant, proving that not only is Musgraves a talented musician, but she's got a flair for comedic banter, too.

"Aidy, I think this is going to be a great show," Schumer says in the promo, turning towards Bryant.

"Probably the best show of the season," Bryant responds.

"Probably the best show ever!" Musgraves chimes in.

"Yeah, relax, okay?" Schumer says, smiling towards the camera.

Musgraves joins a slew of other country stars who have performed on live television for the late-night sketch comedy show, including Maren Morris, Keith Urban and many others. The most recent country performance on the show took place in January of 2018, when Chris Stapleton tapped Sturgill Simpson for surprise performances of "Midnight Train to Memphis" and "Hard Living."

The country singer released her third studio album, Golden Hour, on March 30. She will be  out on the road for her overseas Oh What a World Tour, and will also perform dates in the states -- as well as a series of shows as an opening act for former One Direction member Harry Styles -- over the summer.
