Katie Couric to Guest Host ‘Good Morning America’ Next Week
Former ‘Today’ show anchor Katie Couric is temporarily returning to morning television. It was announced on ‘Good Morning America’ today that Couric will guest host for a week alongside regular anchor George Stephanopoulos starting on Monday, April 2nd.
Couric will fill in for Robin Roberts, who has the week off. “We’re thrilled to have Katie,” gushed Roberts. Immediately following the announcement, Couric tweeted: “Thanks for all the kind words about my guest gig on @GMA! I’ll be keeping Robin’s seat warm next week – Can’t wait, George!”
This marks the first time Couric has co-hosted a morning show since she departed ‘Today’ in 2006. And, interestingly, ‘GMA’ is the main competition for ‘Today’ and has lately been closing the gap with the venerable morning program in terms of ratings.
After she left ‘Today,’ Couric joined CBS, where she hosted the ‘CBS Evening News’ for five years. Last year, she jumped to ABC and will host a syndicated talk show starting this fall.
