When Keith Urban said onstage that he was "shocked beyond shock" to be receiving the 2018 CMA Awards Entertainer of the Year trophy, he wasn't kidding. Re-watch his reaction when Lionel Richie announced him as the winner and you'll see complete astonishment.

The Entertainer of the Year announcement was the final moment of Wednesday night's (Nov. 14) 2018 CMA Awards ceremony, and it was both a humorous and sweet one. As Richie paused to open the winner envelope, fans in the audience took the opportunity to shout out the names of their Entertainer of the Year picks: "Eric Church!" yelled one, followed by another yelling "Chris Stapleton!" -- a call-out that caused Stapleton and his fellow nominees to chuckle.

As Richie called Urban's name, it was clear how much the other nominees were rooting for him. Stapleton and his wife Morgane, along with Jason Aldean and his wife Brittany rose up from their seats, clapping for Urban, while Luke Bryan lept out of his chair, arms in the air in celebration.

For his part, Urban looked genuinely, totally stunned. Mouth agape, he turned to wife Nicole Kidman and asked "Are you kidding?!" as she put her head in her hands, and then stood up for a long hug -- a tender moment that had plenty of fans welling up. Equally sweet was the hug Richie offered Urban when he reached the stage, tears in his eyes.

"Someone said, 'Did you do any campaigning?' I just played every night. That was it," Urban told media members backstage at the 2018 CMA Awards ceremony after accepting his award. "We did what we do every other tour."

Urban last won Entertainer of the Year 13 years ago, in 2005, the first year he was nominated. He was nominated for CMA Entertainer of the Year every year from 2005 through 2011; he received his next nod in the category in 2014, follows by nominations in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
