Sure, he's a fan of John Deere and can wail on a guitar better than most, but can Aussie Keith Urban prove his country roots with a ride on a mechanical bull?

Thanks to an Australian morning show, we don’t have to wonder any longer. Urban was filling in as a guest host on channel 7’s Sunrise recently when he was challenged to a ride the metal beast live on television, an activity selected, of course, because of his chosen musical genre.

Urban was a good sport and climbed aboard, hanging on for a solid few seconds while the bull turned and the other hosts cheered him on from the sidelines. Unfortunately, when the machine took its first strong buck, the singer tumbled off onto the mat.

“I’ve got the wrong pants on,” Urban explains as an obvious excuse for his failure, but it seems he may have just not had much practice.

The "John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16" singer is in the midst of working on a new album (about which no concrete details have been released) and recently celebrated his ninth wedding anniversary with actress Nicole Kidman, which the couple said the fans in Mount Pleasant, Mich. made memorable with a sea of congratulatory signs.

Urban is on tour this summer all over the U.S. and Canada.
