‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ star Larry David has flirted with the big screen. He directed ‘Sour Grapes,’ which was released in 1998 to little fanfare, and appeared as the Woody Allen surrogate in 2009′s ‘Whatever Works.’ He even recently appeared in the Farrelly brothers ‘The Three Stooges.’ But it looks like he’s bringing his thing to the big screen as a leading man under the direction of Greg Mottola.

Fox Searchlight is negotiating with both parties, and they’ve got a script by Alec Berg, Jeff Schaffer and David Mandel, as The Hollywood Reporter tells us. The writing trio have long collaborated with David, having written on ‘Seinfeld’ and ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm. And from what THR is saying, it will be improv-based, so it will have the flavor of ‘Enthusiasm.’ Whether David is essentially playing himself or not is unknown, but likely.

Greg Mottola is coming off of ‘Paul,’ the Simon Pegg/Nick Frost vehicle that did modest business last year, though he’s still probably best known for ‘Superbad.’ Mottola has shown a great eye for comedy in those films, and a sensitive side in something like ‘Adventureland.’ This would keep the director very busy as he just signed on to write an adaptation of Jeffrey Eugenides’ ‘The Marriage Plot,’ which he might also direct.
