Little Big Town covered "Rocket Man," an Elton John classic, during a stunning performance at the 2018 ACM Awards in Las Vegas Sunday night (April 15).

Some of country music's top kings and queens of vocal harmonies, Little Big Town did the 1972 work justice with minimal instrumentation and the exquisite vocals that the band is known for. The four-piece group wore flamboyant Elton John-esque outfits — from fur to sparkles — further bringing the original vibe of the song to life.

The group recently lent their voices to Elton John's two-part tribute album, which was released on April 6. On Revamp and Restoration, artists from multiple genres put their own interpretation on John's classic songs, including LBT's cover of "Rocket Man."

John's longtime collaborator, Bernie Taupin, admits to Taste of Country Nights that he was a bit apprehensive when they chose the classic song to cover.

"Their take on it could have been very glee club-ish," Taupin says. "And Frank Liddell's production just turned it on its ear. It's really spectacular."

Little Big Town scored three nominations at the 2018 ACM Awards:  Vocal Group of the Year (won by Old Dominion), Album of the Year (won by Chris Stapleton for Songs From A Room: Volume 1) and Single Record of the Year (won by Sam Hunt)

Though Little Big Town missed out on their three ACM opportunities in 2018, the foursome brought home Vocal Group of the Year in 2017.
