Luke Combs' Nashville story is hardly a Hollywood script, but it's true to how most aspiring singer-songwriters move to Music City. The "Hurricane" singer left town like one, meaning he didn't get to say everything that needed to be said to those who helped him.

Combs plainly admits he was inspired to move to Nashville when his lease in North Carolina ran out. On a whim he picked up and left. That meant few goodbyes in a city and state that helped raise him.

"Not necessarily make amends or anything like that, but to thank people I needed to thank," Combs says in explaining what the conversations would have been like. He cut his teeth in Asheville, N.C. and Charlotte, N.C., making him next in a increasingly long line of country males to migrate one state west (Eric Church and Chase Rice are two others).

The This One's for You album (June 2) leans traditional when compared to much of what one hears on the radio, but the singer's rock influences come through often. The diverse set of songs never stray too far from the mainstream. Like "Hurricane," (Combs' Top 5 hit on the radio) the rest are shaped around universal experiences and emotions.

Combs finds himself in somewhat unfamiliar territory now that he's having success. He used to do everything himself — the 27-year-old literally didn't know what a tour manager did. Now he has a team of people helping him reach his dreams, but that doesn't mean he's working any less or feeling any increased pressure. He trusts his team because he met them all organically.

"My tour manager, I met him at Boot Barn," Combs says. "He was selling me a pair of boots ... and he said, 'I moved to Nashville to be a tour manager and I need work right now' and I said, 'Man, I don't even have a tour manager. So you can tour manage me.'"

"It's easy when you feel like you have someone you can trust and that obviously does their job really well," he adds. "That takes a lot off my plate."

Look for Combs on Brantley Gilbert's the Devil Don't Sleep Tour this spring and summer. While the pair haven't been able to spend much time together off stage ,they've enjoyed time relaxing on each others' tour buses. But things might be awkward the next time they meet, because ...
