Man Rescues 80-Year-Old Lobster from Restaurant

In a story that’s sure to make you hungry for seafood, a Connecticut man recently rescued a gigantic 80-year-old lobster from certain death at a local restaurant and released it back into the wild. Too bad! And here we are with our bibs on and drawn butter at the ready…

Don MacKenzie purchased a 17-pound lobster, who was nicknamed “Lucky Larry” by locals, after deciding that the animal deserved to live. Given its weight, he estimates the lobster was anywhere from 80 to 100-years-old.

“This lobster has seen World War I, World War II, seen the landing on the moon and the Red Sox win the World Series. He’s made it this far in life,” MacKenzie said. “He deserves to live.”

So, MacKenzie bought the lobster for an undisclosed sum, saying only that it was “the most expensive lobster he never ate,” then released it in a secret location in Long Island Sound, where it will hopefully never be caught by fisherman again.

What do you think? Are you happy to see Lucky Larry live? Or is this just a missed opportunity to use a claw cracker?
