If it's a Weinstein Company film, you can usually bet that it's going to be going for Oscars, so don't be surprised if one of the year's big awards contenders is 'Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.' It stars Idris Elba and Naomie Harris, and is due out at the end of the year, so this new trailer hints at its award possibilities.

Much of what is on screen is standard biopic stuff, but films like this are made from the performances, and if Idris Elba can capture something of Nelson Mandela, it could be very powerful, as it follows the man's rise from activist to prisoner to president. It's hard to say from this if either he or Naomie Harris' portrayal of Winnie Mandela are great or stuck in a TV movie template.

But with Nelson Mandela currently in critical condition, it's also hard to know if the film will be viewed as a great memorial, or unintentionally offensive. That said, Mandela's struggles against Apartheid in South Africa deserve a great movie, and hopefully director Justin Chadwick, and screenwriter William Nicholson have delivered just that. 'Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom' is due out in theaters November 29.
