Martina McBride’s Volunteer Group ‘Team Martina’ Raises Over $40,000 For Breast Cancer Research
As many of you know I was diagnosed a little over a year ago with breast cancer and I am now proud to call myself a survivor. However, it takes a lot of money to keep the research going to hopefully find a cure. Martina McBride has long been an advocate for breast cancer research even establishing Team Martina, a group of volunteers, to raise money that goes towards continued research.
Team Martina recently gave the Martina McBride Breast Cancer Grant, $40,550.00, to Vanderbilt's Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville. The center studies everything from brain tumors to urologic cancers, including of course, breast cancer.
Martina says, "I am so proud of this amazing team of volunteers. They are truly making the world a better place with their fundraising efforts and I'm honored they are doing it in my name.
Martina released her very moving song and video "I'm Gonna Love You Through It" not long before I was diagnosed. It was a touching song before but after my diagnosis it took on a deeper meaning. I was lucky and had the support of my family and friends, and especially my boyfriend, just like the song says. They did love me through it! I'm so proud that there are fund raising efforts like Team Martina to keep the research going.
