One of my favorite singers will be appearing in Abilene Saturday night along with the Hardin-Simmons University orchestra.  The concert will raise funds to grow the Orchestra Studies Endowed Scholarship established in 2010.

In 2010 the group Kansas performed at HSU, I was there, and it too was to raise money for the scholarship fund.  The scholarship became active this past spring.

Murphey will be performing with The Rio Grande Band which features guitarist Pat Flynn, instrumentalist Ryan Murphey and bassist Gary Roller along with the HSU orchestra.  Murphey generally appears in the Abilene area when he plays the Cowboy Christmas Ball in Anson.  This will be a special opportunity to see him before Christmas.

Some of Murphey's top songs from include “What’s Forever For,” “Carolina In The Pines,” "Cherokee Fiddle," "Never Givin' Up On Love" and "Cowboy Logic." My all time favorite would have to be "Cowboy Logic"...I love the line in the song about how to tell which cowboy is the real one when you have 3 dressed all alike sitting in a truck.

Although you don't hear him on radio much anymore he's still recording great music and plays events and festivals all over the U.S.  In fact his latest album "Tall Grass and Cool Water" is currently #1 on the Billboard Western Charts.
