Miranda Lambert took the stage by herself at the 2017 ACM Awards, giving an understated but very bold performance of "Tin Man," one of the songs from her Album of the Year-nominated album The Weight of These Wings.

Lambert was clad in a short black dress with a long cream cape that accentuated her long blond hair as she delivered an achingly sensitive solo acoustic rendition of the song, which finds her addressing the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz in the lyrics, saying, “Every time you’re feeling empty / Better thank your lucky stars / If you ever felt one breaking / You’d never want a heart.”

Lambert has admitted that her most recent album was heavily informed by her divorce from Blake Shelton, and it's certainly easy to read that into the lyrics as she sings the heartbreaking song, which earned a standing ovation.

Lambert reportedly changed her mind at the last minute to perform the song on the ACMs instead of a single, and when Taste of Country caught up with her prior to the awards, she said it didn't matter to her whether the song would be a commercial release, saying she's “never been one of those artists that’s driven by singles.”

“I don’t know if it’s a single or not,” she said. “I don’t care, really. I have 24 songs that I wanna showcase at some point, not as singles or whatever. I just felt like this opportunity is time for me to show that I’m a true singer-songwriter. I’m kind of all over the map as far as the emotional journey on this record, and it’s just another piece.”
