Original Post: March 26th

I've never run a marathon, 10k, 5k or even a 1k but I'm trying to get myself back in shape and I think I've found a goal to work towards. It's an event called Run or Dye and Abilene is soon to be one of their scheduled stops this year. I just found out about this so I'm still looking into it but from what I've seen so far it looks like it will be a blast.

Basically it is a very colorful, but fun race, where you "get blasted with safe, eco-friendly, powdered dye". It's not a serious, hardcore race but something fun that anyone and everyone can do; even someone like me who has never run a race in their life. I've already pre-registered for the race, even though an exact date has not yet been set. If you pre-register you not only are guaranteed a spot (for 10 days) when open registration begins but you also get a $10 discount.

Here's how it works. The Run or Dye course is divided into 4 sections each ranging from 1 to 1.3 k with the 'Dye Zone' set up in the middle. There are 'Dye Stations' set up along each route where, upon your completion of each, you will be splashed with a colored powder dye. Then you return to the Dye Zone and get to return the favor and splash others.  When you have finished the race you are a rainbow of color and you have, as they say, 'dyed running'! You've done something great for yourself and helped raise money for a local charity.

The more I think about this the more excited I get. I figure if I'm working out and have a goal in mind, like doing this race, it will help me stay focused. I'm already up to 1.5 miles, still have some work to do, and now I have a great reason to keep going!
