December 21, 2012 is according to many doomsday believers, the end of earth as we know it. People from all walks of life are in fear that apocalyptic events will materialize in the year 2012. There have even been predictions by some that a rogue Planet-X, will come crashing into the earth. However, if you ask those in the know at NASA they say that the “most exciting” thing we earth-lings will experience in 2012,  is the winter solstice or the longest night of the year. When that happens, it will end the 13th cycle of the mythical Maya creation, but astronomers are quick to point out, that there is nothing to be concerned about.

According to the ancient Mayan calendar, 2012′s winter solstice marks the end of a 144,000-day cycle. This cycle, has already been repeated 12 times. The 13th will end Dec. 12, 2012, capping a full 5,200-year Mayan cycle of creation. This date has long been shrouded in mystery, with many claiming that it will bring destruction to our planet. Nibiru expert Nancy Lieder, who says she is in contact with aliens from Zeta Reticuli, first said Nibiru would cause widespread disaster in May 2003, only to change it to December 21, 2012.

NASA’s Donald Yoemans explains how he and others have been preparing for December 21, 2012.
