Celebrate National Pancake Day With Free Pancakes
For the seventh year, February 28th is National Pancake Day. The day was started by well-known breakfast and pancake chain IHOP (International House of Pancakes) as the finale to a month-long charity drive for Children’s Miracle Network.
This year is no different. IHOP has been raising money for CMN in its restaurants for the entire month of February, and now it’s time for a big “thank you” and a last push for donations. To celebrate National Pancake Day, IHOP restaurants are giving customers a free “short stack” of pancakes from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. In return, they are asking for donations to CMN or other local charities.
The first National Pancake Day was celebrated in 2006, and since then IHOP has raised approximately $8 million for Children’s Miracle Network. They expect to raise about $2.7 million this year. All proceeds stay local, going to the nearest hospital.
You can’t really beat a free stack of pancakes. So how can you celebrate National Pancake Day?
Get to IHOP
The first thing you need to do is get to the nearest IHOP before 10 p.m. tonight and have a short stack of your favorite. Make sure you leave a few bucks for the kids.
Plan a Trip to the Pancake Pantry
If you live in Nashville, you’re in luck. Celebrate the day by hitting up the pancake pantry for an unbelievable stack of flapjacks. No one else has pancakes like they do, but they close at 3 p.m., so get there quick or go tomorrow.
Go to the Largest Pancake Festival in the World
The Lubbock Lions Club boasts the largest pancake festival in the world. The proceeds go to local charities. Sadly, this year’s festival was on February 18th, so you’ll have to make plans to attend the 2013 fest on February 16th in Lubbock, TX. Or you can just get on the Google and find one near you.
Go to the World’s Biggest Pancake Breakfast
If you can’t wait a year to hit the Pancake Festival in Lubbock, head to Springfield, MA for the biggest pancake breakfast in the world. Theirs will be held on Saturday, May 12th, downtown on Main Street. It’s held every year to celebrate the city’s anniversary.
Make Your Own Pancakes
Chef John from Food Wishes shows you how to beat the box mix blues and make delicious pancakes from scratch. Be careful though– if they’re too good, people will expect you to keep making them.
Make the World’s Biggest Pancake
You’ll have to beat the record set in 2005, but all you’ll need to do is make a pancake bigger than this 2.5 ton one made in Canada. You’ll probably need a lot of Bisquick and a really large spatula.
Flip Them Like This Guy
Once you’ve made the pancakes, your celebration will not be complete until you flip them. Chris of Chris’ Cakes shows you exactly how it’s done. Just make sure you have a large batch to practice with.
Australian chef Andy Wrobel recently broke the world record for the tallest stack of pancakes. Measuring in at almost 2.5 feet, the stack makes the IHOP Rooty Tooty Fresh and Fruity look like a measly plate of crepes.
