NBC Thinks Trace Adkins Threatening Steven Baldwin is a Reason to Watch Celebrity Apprentice. I Beg to Differ

Watching TV has become strange for me lately. It seems as though the sparkle of all the programs I used to watch has worn off. Shows like ‘American Idol’, ‘NCIS’, ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition‘, the 30 different Law & Order shows and others have all become less important to me than they were a few years ago. The same hold true for ‘The Apprentice‘.

The show that made Donald Trump even more rich and famous than before, and gave us the never ending catch phrase “You’re Fired” is now in it’s 13th season in nine years. NBC has released a new teaser to let us in on the new “explosive all-star season” (their words, not mine). You can check it out here:

This season, in reality, is a rehash of past ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ seasons. It’s the same characters doing the same silly things to raise money for their favorite charity. I like the charity part, and I am a fan of some of the celebrities. And yes, I have to admit, Trace Adkins makes me laugh, simply because he does not fit in with this cast of clowns. But isn’t it time to shelve this show and try something new? Who still watches?

The term ‘jumped the shark’ is widely known in the TV industry as the point in the evolution of a television show when it begins a decline in quality, and there’s no going back. It’s a direct reference to the episode of the hit show ‘Happy Days‘, Fonzie, answers a challenge to his bravery by wearing swim trunks and his trademark leather jacket, and jumping over a confined shark. At that point, even the most dedicated Happy Days fans collectively sighed, muttering the words, “now, this is ridiculous”.

‘The Apprentice’ jumped the shark after Season 11, because there is no follow up to the genuine ridiculousness of Gary Busey. And bringing him back the the show is too much Gary Busey. There’s nothing Trump, NBC, or anyone else can do to return the show to its past glory.
