NFL Football 2013: 5 Things We Learned From Week 13

Incredible individual performances highlighted Week 13 of the 2013 NFL season. Here are five things we learned on Sunday:

Nick Foles Is a Record-Setting QB

After 19 touchdowns — and plenty of questions about his status as the starter — Eagles’ quarterback Nick Foles has yet to throw an interception this season. During Sunday’s three-TD performance against Arizona (7-5), Foles set a team record for most passes without an interception (233), which broke Michael Vick’s mark of 224 set in 2010. Foles did get picked off by Patrick Peterson late, but a defensive holding call washed away the mistake and helped Philadelphia (7-5) claim the win and a share of the NFC East lead with Dallas (7-5).

Adrian Peterson Is the NFL’s Leading Rusher. Again.

Adrian Peterson carried 35 times for 211 yards in the Vikings’ 23-20 overtime win over the Bears. Minnesota (3-8-1) is well out of the NFC North race, but Chicago (6-6) was trying to tie Detroit (7-5) for the lead. The Bears had a shot to win in OT, but Robbie Gould missed a 47-yard kick, leaving the door open for AP to run through. Now the NFL’s leading rusher with 1,208 yards, Peterson crossed the 10,000 yard mark for his career, good for 27th all-time. Chicago now faces a more difficult path to the playoffs, including games against Dallas and Philadelphia.

San Francisco’s Receivers Are Healthy & Dangerous

Out since May with a torn Achilles, wide receiver Michael Crabtree finally joined Anquan Boldin and Vernon Davis on the 49ers offensive unit during Sunday’s 23-13 win over the Rams. With his entire crew of targets in place for the first time this season, Colin Kaepernick had a great day — 19 of 28 for 275 yards and a score — against a solid defense. San Francisco (8-4) has established itself as a team that could return to the NFC title game for the third consecutive year, something that hasn’t been done since the Eagles accomplished the feat four years in a row (2002-2005).

The Redskins Can’t Protect RG3

Robert Griffin III was sacked five times during the Redskins’ 24-17 loss to the Giants on Sunday night. Griffin has now been sacked 19 times in the past four games, while Washington (3-9) has been eliminated from playoff contention for the 17th time in 21 years. New York (5-7) kept its faint playoff hopes alive, but only at the cost of the Redskins’ dynamic second-year QB who has had a much more difficult sophomore campaign. Does Griffin lack some mobility after knee surgery prior to the season? Yes, but the offensive line has let both him and running back Alfred Morris down in 2013.

Eric Decker Had a Career Day

Broncos’ wide receiver Eric Decker had eight catches for a career-high 174 yards and four touchdowns for Denver (10-2) in its 35-28 win over the Chiefs on Sunday. After falling behind 21-7, the Broncos scored the next 28 points to beat Kansas City (9-3) and move one game ahead in the AFC West. Third on the team in receptions coming into the game, Decker scored more TDs on Sunday than he did in the previous 11 contests this season. Denver QB Peyton Manning now has more than 4,000 yards and 41 touchdowns through the air in 2013. He’s the reason the Broncos are the favorite to win the AFC title.
