Part of what makes the men of Old Dominion such an exciting act to watch moving forward is what they've done in the past. 'Shut Me Up' is the only single they've had thus far, and that was only a hit on SiriusXM. However, individually or together they've notched hits by the Band Perry, Craig Morgan, Chris Young and -- most recently -- Dierks Bentley.

But it's their new single everyone is talking about. 'Break Up With Him' is a clever, R&B-influenced country groove that doesn't play coy. It's a guy asking a girl to kick her man aside so they can be together, and singer Matt Ramsey is pretty convincing. Kenny Chesney took notice. He's asked the group to open several dates on his upcoming Big Revival Tour.

As of now Old D is unsigned, but that figures to change ... or maybe not. 2014 Artist to Watch Chase Rice proved that you can have a hit as an indie artist, as long you have some moxy and an irresistible hit song. Ramsey, Brad Tursi, Trevor Rosen, Geoff Sprung and Whit Sellers have both, along with plenty or touring experience.

It's no coincidence these two acts toured together. Both were hitmakers on satellite radio before terrestrial radio took notice. Both rely heavily on streaming as well, which puts the songwriters in the band at odds with the actual band. The group recently told ToC they hope royalties increase for songwriters, but they won't be badmouthing or abandoning Spotify.

“Yeah, there’s a lot of people out there, like a lot of people out there that wouldn’t know our music if it wasn’t for Spotify,” Ramsey tells Taste of Country as his bandmates nod in agreement.

“If you listen to these interviews with a lot of big artists, they kind of give in to the fact that yeah, if you need to be discovered it’s a huge tool,” bassist Sprung adds.
