Paul Cauthen kicked off the 2018 Americana Music Festival by bringing his Big Velvet Revue to the Basement East in Nashville on Wednesday night (Sept. 12). The singer-songwriter assembled an all-star crew -- including some surprise guests -- for the show, which ran late into the night after the 2018 Americana Honors & Awards ceremony.

Backed by the Whiskey Wolves of the West, who were acting as the evening's house band, Cauthen took the stage throughout the night, both for a set of his own and as emcee and duet partner. Aaron Lee Tasjan, Erin Rae, BJ Barham, Margo Price and more played during the show; readers can press play above to watch a snippet of Price and Cauthen covering the Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty classic "You're the Reason Our Kids are Ugly," a song they've sung together before.

Cauthen played additional showcases throughout AmericanaFest 2018, which ran until Sunday (Sept. 16). It was Cauthen's first Big Velvet Revue at the Americana Music Festival; however, he'd previously brought the Revue to SXSW, in Austin, earlier this year. The event takes its name from Cauthen's nickname, Big Velvet, a press release reports.
