Tony Brown, a music producer and former record label executive who has worked with George Strait, Vince Gill, Reba McEntire and many others, was arrested last week and charged with domestic assault resulting in bodily injury.

Brown’s wife of nearly eight months brought the charges against him, saying he pushed and choked her after an argument in September.

According to Jamie Brown, she and Tony had an argument on Sept. 11 about getting her father a job with Tony’s business partners. After the conversation, she claims she went to a spare bedroom upstairs and locked the door, but he kicked it in and got physical with her. The arrest warrant obtained by Nashville Scene states Jamie Brown then tried to go to another room and call police, but Tony threw her phone into the swimming pool.

Belle Meade Police eventually responded to a phone call from Tony Brown’s phone and took pictures of the injuries. He was released on $5,000 bond and is due to appear in court on Nov. 20. The 66-year-old has yet to issue a statement regarding the incident. It’s not clear why it took a full month before Brown was arrested.

In his time in the industry, Brown has won four Grammy Awards and four ACM Awards. According to Music Row, he was working with the rock band Train and country newcomer Kristen Kelly at the time of his February marriage to Jamie. For 19 years he was the president of MCA Records before founding Universal South Records in 2002. He began his career as a piano player for Elvis Presley and then Emmylou Harris. Sara Evans, Steve Earle and Lee Ann Womack are among the artists he’s worked with recently.
