Reporter Almost Gets Her Head Taken Off By Baseball While Taking Selfie

Having your picture taken and taking a picture both require a certain degree of concentration. So when you’re taking a “selfie” (and performing both of these tasks at once) you tend to be pretty oblivious to anything else going on around you.

Baseball reporter Kelly Nash almost learned this lesson the hard way while she was covering a game in Boston. Since she’s from Massachusetts she wanted to take a picture of herself atop Fenway Park’s famed Green Monster to show to her family.

As she took the selfie one of the players, who was taking batting practice, launched one over the 37-foot wall and sent a ball whizzing right by her noggin.

Amazingly, her iPhone was able to clearly capture the almost disaster.

“Producer Art Dryce had called out ‘heads up!’ a few times while I was taking pictures around the left field section,” she explained. “But none of those balls actually fell close to me, so I took my chances turning my back on batting practice for a picture.”

Nash credits the near miss on having a DVD of the movie ‘Angels in Outfield‘ in her purse.

Another trick to avoiding decapitation at sporting events is to follow the advice of every coach you’ve ever had and just keep your eye on the ball and off your phone.
