Thanks to her dedication to the craft of songwriting, Sarah Darling is about to be honored for her commitment to music education. The National Association for Music Education recently announced that Darling is the recipient of this year’s Stand Up for Music Award.

“Sarah epitomizes the type of artist who truly understands the importance of music education,” NAfME’s executive director Michael A. Butera said. ”Her formal music training started at a young age while growing up in Mitchellville, Iowa, and her dedication to the craft of songwriting in particular has brought her significant recognition in the country music industry and beyond.”

“Our members — America’s music teachers — greatly appreciate her assistance in raising awareness among our elected leaders about how music education orchestrates success, both in school and beyond.”

Darling will receive the award during a ceremony in Washington, D.C., on Saturday June 29. The award will be presented to the country star as a part of NAfME’s annual National Leadership event.

While she’s in D.C., Darling will spend some time with legislators and representatives to express the importance of teaching students about music in schools all over the country.

The trip to our nation’s capitol comes at a busy time for the country singer, who is touring quite a bit this summer, both on her own and with Alan Jackson. Last weekend she filmed the music video for her single ‘Little Umbrellas,’ her first since leaving Black River Entertainment.
