Scotty McCreery’s Hurricane Sandy Benefit Show Raises $5K
Scotty McCreery raised $5,000 with his ‘Beacon Theatre Benefit for Hurricane Sandy Relief’ concert, which took place at the historic venue in New York City on November 23.
The ‘Water Tower Town’ singer graciously donated a portion of ticket sales for the event to disaster relief following the horrific destruction that took place in New Jersey and New York earlier this month. According to McCreery, his own experiences with the catastrophic power of Mother Nature is what fueled him to be proactive in the relief process.
âBeing from North Carolina, I have seen firsthand what hurricanes can do,â he reveals. âAfter seeing the devastation caused by Sandy, I wanted to figure out a way to help … I thought, âWhy not turn that New York show into a benefit?ââ
Also on-hand to lend her star power was McCreery’s friend and fellow former ‘American Idol’ alum Pia Toscano. The ‘This Time’ singer joined forces with the country crooner to raise money for a cause that hit close to home — literally.
âNew York is my hometown and itâs been difficult to watch what has happened there to my friends and family,â says Toscano. âSo when Scotty asked me to be a part of his Beacon Theater benefit performance, I jumped at the chance.â
McCreery and Toscano appeared onstage together following the concert to present a check to World Vision, a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families and communities worldwide to combat poverty and social injustice.
