Less than a week after his death, Scotty McCreery paid tribute to the late Merle Haggard with an energetic performance of "Mama Tried" at the Grand Ole Opry.

The country singer took the famed stage on April 12 with his band members and the Grand Ole Opry's backing band for a spirited rendition of the classic Haggard song. Guitar in hand, McCreery's deep vocals impressed as he sang the lyrics to one of Haggard's signatures.

Standing in the famed Opry circle, McCreery ended his performance by paying respect to the country legend. "God bless Mr. Merle Haggard, y'all," he remarked. "Thank you so much Grand Ole Opry. Y'all have a great night. We love you."

Following his performance, McCreery wrote on Twitter what it was like to pay tribute to Haggard:

Of course, McCreery wasn't the only artist to show admiration for Haggard in the days following his death. On April 15, Vince Gill debuted a song at the Grand Ole Opry that he wrote in memory of Haggard titled "A World Without Haggard."

Hell, I thought he’d live forever / He shaped every note I play,” Gill sang alongside soaring pedal steel from Paul Franklin.

Later, he details what a world without Haggard would be like. “Who’d tell the truth to you and me?” he sings. “Oh, I’m lost in a world without Haggard / It’s a world I thought I would never see.
