Memorial Day weekend is a time to celebrate our military and the sacrifices they make to keep us safe and free. We do that in many ways but we also get together with family and friends to celebrate with BBQ's, camping, swimming, fishing or any number of other activities during the extended weekend. My family did some of that and played a great deal of dominoes. Yes, the old game of dominoes called 'chicken foot'.

It started with a conversation between my boyfriend and I talking about old board games we played as kids. That led to me remembering my grandmother teaching us grandkids how to play dominoes. We learned 42 and chicken foot. Now I have to say it's been awhile since I played either and I've forgotten all the rules, that's when you make up your own. It's best to make the rules before you play not as you play! Our rules kept changing but that made it even more fun(ny).

We started with one set of dominoes just between me and my boyfriend that afternoon. By the end of the evening we had made a second trip to buy 3 more sets of dominoes. The kids even joined in and we played until 12:30 Saturday morning.

The next day we had some friends over to swim and BBQ and ended up playing dominoes again this time until 2:00 am. I have to say we haven't laughed that hard in a long time and our friends loved it.

What's amazing is we didn't depend on the TV or video games or any other 'new' technology. It was dominoes. Something our grandparents and great-grandparents did for entertainment many years ago. We talked, we laughed, we cheated, we talked smack, and had more fun than I can remember since I was a kid.

So the next time you have a family/friend get together try dominoes or just a simple board game for an evening of fun and laughter! It's something you will always remember.
