Ah mid-season.  You tantalize us with your casting announcements, but all the fall season premieres in the world couldn't detract from you mysterious allure.  Wait, what were we talking about?  Oh, right.  By this point the second season of NBC's hotly anticipated Broadway drama 'Smash' is primed to explode if it throws in any more big name theatre talent, but thankfully the latest has already been 'Smash'ed once before.  Bernadette Peters will return to her season 1 role when the series picks up in 2013, but how long will she stick around?

Somebody call the 'Gypsy' police, because...well, this sentence turned quickly.  Anyway, it sees that a bit more star power is in order for the upcoming 'Smash' season 2, as Bernadette Peters has been tapped to reprise her role as Broadway legend Leigh Conroy, mother to lead character Ivy Lynn (Megan Hilty).  As fans of the series well know, the final episode of 'Smash's first season left Ivy Lynn in some pretty dire straights, though Vulture says Peters won't pop up until about the middle of the season.

Peters joins an already-packed guest roster for 'Smash' season 2, including 'Hairspray's Nikki Blonsky, 'Rent' alum Jesse L. Martin, Debra Messing’s former ‘Will & Grace’ star Sean Hayes, Krysta Rodriguez as Karen’s new roommate Ana,  Andy Mientus, ‘Newsies’ star Jeremy Jordan, and ‘American Idol’ vet Jennifer Hudson.  As previously reported, season 2 will also see the departure of show-runner and creator Theresa Rebeck, with former ‘Gossip Girl‘ EP Josh Safran stepping in.

What say you?  Does adding back Bernadette Peters to ‘Smash’s second season give you renewed hope for the oft-maligned series?  What Broadway stars would you like to see added to the ranks?  Tell us what you want to see from ‘Smash’ season 2 in the comments!
