Spains ‘Running of the Bulls’ is a Crazy and Dangerous Tradition
The Running of the Bulls took place July 6th – 14th in Pamplona, Spain. This is a yearly tradition that takes place during the fiestas of San Fermin. It’s an interesting year’s ol tradition that people from all over the world travel to enjoy and while others just don’t understand. I would be one of the latter; I just don’t understand putting yourself in that kind of danger. This year over 20 people were hurt during the running.
I’ve never understood the ‘running of the bulls’. It’s dangerous and someone, multiple people actually, get injured every year doing this. They release the bulls to run down the street from a holding pen outside the city to the bullring. The run usually only takes about 3-4 minutes but can take longer if a bull gets separated; that’s when they get scared and dangerous.
This year 20+ people were injured and taken to the hospital. Some stumble and fall and end up with minor scrapes and bruises. Others get run over by the bulls or stampeded by other participants, some even get gored by the bulls and suffer extensive injuries. On lady this year was gored in the back and had to undergo surgery.
I do believe I will stick to just watching it on TV, but even that is hard to watch. However it’s much safer than being in the middle of it all and getting hurt. I always think about the scene in the movie ‘City Slickers’ when Billy Crystal, Daniel Stern and Bruno Kirby are having a mid-life crisis and take off to participate in the running of the bulls.
Check out the video below of this year’s final run. Is this something you would do?
