Horror certainly got its due at Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards, between Get Out and Stranger Things, but The Mist is definitely going to shroud the competition next year. See for yourself, as Spike’s take on the Stephen King novella gets a destructive new trailer.

Among the new movie and TV clips to debut during MTV’s award ceremony, The Mist rolled forth with a second official trailer; this one capitalizing on some of the more out-and-out horror imagery. Set to premiere on June 22, the new series diverges from Frank Darabont’s 2007 film, and features among its cast Vikings star Alyssa Sutherland, Six Feet Under and American Horror Story favorite Frances Conroy, The Wire alum Isiah Whitlock Jr, Morgan Spector, Luke Cosgrove and more.

So reads the synopsis:

Based on a story by Stephen King, Spike’s “The Mist” centers around a small town family that is torn apart by a brutal crime. As they deal with the fallout an eerie mist rolls in, suddenly cutting them off from the rest of the world, and in some cases, each other. Family, friends and adversaries become strange bedfellows, battling the mysterious mist and its threats, fighting to maintain morality and sanity as the rules of society break down.

Written by RITA scribe Christian Torpe, the new series will draw inspiration from the Stephen King novella, as well as Walking Dead alum Darabont’s film. You can watch the first trailer below, and stay tuned for more.
