The Kiwanis Club of Greater Abilene will hold their 57th annual Chili Day and Auction on Saturday, February 23, at the Abilene Civic Center. The Kiwanis take much pride in the fact that they donate monies and assist many local charities with the resources raised for the Chili Day and Auction.To purchase tickets to the event, simply ask a Kiwanis Club member or get them at the door.

As the old saying goes, "it ain't over till the fat lady has sung" and she has done so because the totals are in. The West Texas Rehab Center's telethon and auction raised, $1,202,646. This is not the all-time high for the Rehab center, in fact last year's telethon was, when the Rehab center raised just over 1.33 million dollars. This year's total is the fourth highest in the history of the Rehab center's telethon and auction.

The West Texas Rehabilitation Center's Annual Telethon is scheduled to air live from the Abilene Civic Center, January 19 from 7 p.m. to midnight. As with the telethon every year there is a huge auction that takes place and you can participate in from your computer. You'll find everything imaginable from handmade afghans to yard furniture. This years West Texas Rehabilitation Center’s telethon auction is said to the be one of the largest, because of the sheer number of items that were donated for the auction. According to Dan Huggins the director of donor relations for the Rehab Center, the total number of items donated thus far are 480 and the number continues to grow even as the telethon starts airing. The total for the items donated is estimated to be worth over $475,000 in retail value.

Martina McBride has been instrumental in helping raise money for her favorite cause, the Nashville YWCA. For the last 16 years she has hosted the "Celebrity Auction" that this year brought in over $153,000, a 50% increase over last year’s total. The dress she wore at the Grand Ole Opry re-opening following the Nashville floods is the single highest grossing item that brought in the highest bid of the night, when a fan from Texas paid $27,000 for her dress.
