Stylish women can get creative in a pinch when they don’t have eyeliner and need it. Some have even tried using substitutes like Sharpie markers in situations when the real thing isn’t available. Country sweetheart Taylor Swift does not condone or endorse such behavior, even though she admits to having done it!

“I once used a Sharpie as eyeliner in an airplane bathroom because I didn’t have any with me,” the singer spilled to fashion and beauty site Refinery 29. “I don’t recommend it.”

Neither do we! Necessity may be the mother of invention in this case, but Swift — who just shared that she has big news on the way shortly — realized the error of her ways, since putting a permanent marker near the eyes can be dangerous.

Swift also acknowledged that she loves her red lips and cat-eye liner, which have become her signature looks, saying, “That’s been my go-to for a few years now.”

The ‘Mean’ singer revealed that when she let Vogue editors cut bangs into her hair for her cover issue, it turned out to be one of her favorite changes to her hair, which is another of her style hallmarks. Bangs are a big deal for girls with curly cues, but Swift was game to try something new. “Moral of the story: Always trust Vogue,” she said, proving that she was more than pleased with the result.

Lately, the ‘Safe & Sound’ singer admits she’s been fashioning her coif in a smooth-on-top, loose-curl-at-the-bottom style, complete with some sort of headband or scarf.

As for her “off-duty” style influences? She credits old-fashioned photos of modern classic women — like Ethel and Jackie Kennedy — from the ’50s and ’60s with inspiring her. “Something about that elegance is really lovely and makes me want to dress more like they did,” Swift says. “I’d never thought about wearing pearl earrings or head scarves before [being inspired by] them.”
