The Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene will host a special ceremony honoring real-life heroes in the Big Country this Memorial Day. This commemoration is open to veterans and all those who support them.

Several Big Country heroes, including World War II veterans who served in the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard and the Merchant Marines, will be introduced. Jones County Judge Dale Spurgeon, Taylor County Judge Downing Boles and Abilene Mayor Norm Archibald will make welcoming remarks. Colonel David Béen, Commander of the 7th Bomb Wing and installation commander at Dyess Air Force Base will be the featured speaker.

The Abilene Community Band will play a patriotic medley and Honor Guard members from Dyess Air Force Base will post the colors. A fly-over by the Big Country Squadron of the Commemorative Air Force will thrill the assembled crowd.
