The All-Time Best Comedy Movies – Townsquare Media Abilene Staff Reveal Their Favorites
Who cares what the 'critics' have to say or what the 'Academy' deems funny. We put our heads together here at Townsquare Media Abilene to compile, what we think is, the best comedies of all time. I'd say this is a definitive list based on those who really watch comedies.
Animal House
-Frank PainBecause 'fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life' is one of the coolest movie quotes ever and also epitomized John Belushi's hilarious character Bluto. This movie is a middle finger to the establishment and a high five to everyone on the outside looking in. Watch it. Laugh your butt off.
This is Spinal Tap
-Dave WheatonEvery scene is a ‘must see’. From “This one goes to 11”, to “it’s such a fine line between stupid and clever”, and the critic’s review of their album Shark Sandwich (2 words, “S**t Sandwich”, Spinal Tap is as quotable a movie as there is out there. The music is hilarious, the story is timeless, and Rob Reiner showed his first glimpse of genius in creating this “mockumentary” of a “rockumentary”. There will never be a film quite like this one. I think I’ve seen this movie a thousand times, and I could watch it a thousand more.
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
-Lisa LindseySo many quotes and scenes run though my head from “It’s just a flesh wound.” “She called me a Newt!” The Killer Rabbit, the Knights that say Ni …..The horse hoof sounds made with coconuts…. I’m laughing just thinking about it.
Blazing Saddles
-Landon KingWay ahead of its time for a bunch of reasons. Mongo punching out the horse is one of the funniest scenes in movie history. Also, one classic line after another: ‘Where all da white women at?’…’The sheriff’s a ni…(Clock bell rings)'. Some people may not know that Richard Pryor was one of the writers. That’s why they were able to get away with some of the incredibly ‘offensive’ racial humor.
Airplane
-Chaz McGuireThis movie had every comedic element you can think of. Slapstick, deadpan, innuendos, character, and just plain stupidity at its finest. One of those movies you can just kick back and drink beer and watch over and over again.
Good Luck Chuck
-Erin BristolEvery man in the world would like to be Chuck… Especially in the sex montage scene that gets edited out on TV
Horrible Bosses
-Shay HillI found it on TV one night, nothing else was on, so I watched it and laughed my butt off. They played it all so straight that it was just that much more funny.
Anchorman - The Legend of Ron Burgandy
-Carla HowardI don't know if you know this but I'm kind if a big deal.
Three Fugitives
-Shilo FletcherNick Nolte as an ex-con who gets out of prison and Martin short takes him as a hostage in a bank robbery.
Dumb & Dumber
-Terri KimmelThe snot freezing on their faces while riding the mini-bike, the blind kid with the bird---just cracks me up
Coming to America
-Chris SanchezComing to America because of the multiple characters Eddie Murphy plays. From the screaming Barber Shop character to the lead singer of Sexual Chocolate. A timeless classic.
Talladega Nights - The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
-Jeff Easterling...because Ricky Bobby is one of our people.
