The Gaylord Texan’s Christmas ‘ICE!’ Show Looks Like A Whole Lot of Fun for the Entire Family
A couple of years ago I told you about the Gaylord Texan hotel in Grapevine, Texas and their ICE! show that looked so incredible. I finally got to check it out for myself over the weekend and it was fabulous.
The Gaylord hotel has it’s own gardens, waterways, shopping and more and during this special season it has a Christmas show which includes the ‘ICE!’ exhibit.
This is the 11th year for the ICE! show. Each year has a new theme and this years is Frosty the Snowman. The character carvings tell the story based on the book and movie that we all remember growing up. Forty artisans from Harbin Japan come to Texas each year to provide their special carving talents that create the show.
Here are a few facts on what it takes to turn the hotel events room into a winter wonderland. It takes 2 million pounds of ice in 14 different colors and about a month to create the walk-thru exhibit. The ice is trucked in from an ice factory over a 3 week period and comes in clear, white and colored blocks.
The room is a constant 9 degrees so you are given a complimentary parka to wear as you make your way through the exhibit; however, gloves are not provided so be sure to take your own. There are rooms of colorful sculptures to tell the story of Frosty along with a real ice slide that you can slide down as many times as you want and there is the Nativity scene that is featured each year. The Nativity scene is absolutely beautiful, done in clear and white ice that is back lit. Check out the video below and the slide show of photos from my trip.
