There's nothing wrong or inherently bad about being a magpie artist. Quentin Tarantino famously steals from his favorite films (the good ones and the bad ones). The real test is if you do it well. Rob Zombie's latest 'The Lords of Salem' looks familiar, but is this good Zombie or bad Zombie? Now there's a new trailer and poster.

Here's the poster:

Watching the trailer, you get a sense of the influences that seem to feed the project -- especially Roman Polanski's 'Rosemary's Baby,' between what looks like a satanic mating ritual and the evil old neighbors who are played by some of horror's famous leading ladies. But there's also that Zombie feel, and tastes of other horror films like 'The Wicker Man' and more. We liked Zombie's 'The Devil's Rejects,' but his 'Halloween' remake and sequel felt like a regression. We're hoping this delivers.

Here's the synopsis:

From the singular mind of horror maestro Rob Zombie comes a chilling plunge into a nightmare world where evil runs in the blood. The Lords of Salem tells the tale of Heidi (Sheri Moon Zombie), a radio station DJ living in Salem, Massachusetts, who receives a strange wooden box containing a record, a “gift from the Lords.” Heidi listens, and the bizarre sounds within the grooves immediately trigger flashbacks of the town’s violent past. Is Heidi going mad, or are the “Lords of Salem” returning for revenge on modern-day Salem?

And here's that trailer. 'The Lords of Salem' opens April 19.
