‘The Voice’ Battle Rounds Pit Natalie Stovall Against Adam Cunningham

Tonight (Oct. 24), the fourth and final Voice season 13 Battle Rounds went underway — which consists of the coaches pitting team members against each other in epic duets for the last time this particular season.

Team Blake Shelton had two particularly polished gems going head-to-head: Natalie Stovall, a Tennessee native and country music veteran — she made her Opry debut at 12, and also performs with radio host Bobby Bones and his band the Raging Idiots — was pitted against Adam Cunningham, himself from Nashville and who won over Shelton early in the month with his rendition of “Midnight Rider” by the Allman Brothers.

The pair were given Little Big Town‘s swampy, bluesy 2005 hit “Boondocks,” with both singers belting it for all they were worth.

Coach Jennifer Hudson was the first to comment, telling Stovall “You’re a cool-looking chick,” but added that Cunningham “held his own” and that she would “roll with him.”

Coach Miley Cyrus noted wryly that “It’s fun to sit in L.A. singing about the boondocks,” before praising both singers. She seemed to lean more towards Cunningham as well, saying he “shined bright.”

Coach Adam Levine also had high compliments for both, noting “I love to see Blake suffer–have fun!”

In the end, of course, it all came down to Shelton, who said “Gosh. You guys are both pros and great singers, and great people. I don’t know what to do here.” He deliberated for a few moments, before making his choice.

“Nobody won or lost that performance,” he said, explaining that he had to base his choice looking forward on what he thought he could do.

And? He chose Cunningham.

There were no steals left in anyone’s belt, so Stovall was, sadly, sent home.

This week wraps up the Battle Rounds, with the Knockouts beginning next week. Kelly Clarkson, season 14 coach, will serve as Key Advisor.
