Tim McGraw Urges Americans to Vote on Election Day
Election Day is here, and Tim McGraw wants to ensure that all able Americans exercise one of their most important rights -- the right to vote.
"Vote! That's what people fought, died and bled for," McGraw urged backstage at the CMA Awards last week, according to Billboard. "That's what makes America great is we get to choose our leaders. Do it! No matter what you believe, vote. You can't b--ch about it if you don't vote."
McGraw expressed how important it is for people to take their opinions to the polls, though he didn't discuss his personal voting plans this time around. However, in 2008, the singer was all blue and pulling for President Barack Obama.
"It's innate in me to be a blue-dog Democrat. I'm not saying I'm right or wrong, but that's what I am," he told People at the time. "My wife [singer Faith Hill] and I and our family will do everything we can to support Obama. I like his ideas, I like his energy, and I like the statement he would make for our country to the world."
As for himself, McGraw hasn't nixed the idea of becoming involved in politics professionally. "Who knows? I feel like I've been very fortunate. If one of these days I'm in a position where I can give back and feel like I'm smart enough to help and not just doing it for the hell of doing it, then it would be something I'd consider," he told the Star Tribune in July. "But certainly it would be after my kids are grown."
