It's been a busy time for Tom Hardy. It took him a while to recover from the failure of 'Star Trek: Nemesis,' but he's now a pretty hot property after 'Inception' and 'The Dark Knight Rises.' And it looks like he's lining up to play Mount Everest mountain climber George Mallory.

Hardy is in talks, according to Deadline Hollywood, but there's a script by Sheldon Turner, and Doug Liman is attached to direct. Liman is actually an avid climber himself, which would probably help, and the script is based on Jeffrey Archer’s book 'Paths Of Glory.' Mallory was one of many who attempted to get to the top of Everest three, and he tried times before disappearing on the mountain in 1924, only for his remains to be found in 1999.

Hardy has yet to prove himself a movie star, as films like 'Dark Knight Rises' weren't really built on his appeal, and films like 'Warrior' and 'Lawless' don't show that he's got more than a cult following. But perhaps his stock will rise higher after the release of 'Mad Max: Fury Road' where Hardy will be playing the lead, and which is actually happening and filming (after years of being talked about and delayed, and talked about some more and then delayed some more). Liman is currently in pre-production on 'All You Need is Kill' so 'Everest' is a ways off.
