Trace Adkins has been honored with the 2016 Dwight D. Eisenhowser Award. The country star received the honor from the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) due to his "long-standing and extraordinary support and advocacy for America's servicemen and -women."

The Dwight D. Eisenhower Award, created in 1979, is given to one individual each year who “best reflects President Eisenhower’s beliefs and support for a strong national security and industrial base.” It is the NDIA's most prestigious award, and it recognizes "leadership and strategic impact at the highest levels of National Security."

Adkins has been a tireless advocate for U.S. troops with his many USO tours, through which he brings his music and encouragement to military families. The "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk" hitmaker met the criteria for the award, which among other components, includes being "an active supporter of the defense industrial base and its programs" and being "a leader in defining and addressing industrial base and national security issues."

After receiving the award and its accompanying medal in mid-May, Adkins traveled to Kuwait for a series of USO tour dates. He spoke with U.S. Army Central at that time, saying, "For me personally, it’s just an opportunity to say thank you, that I support what you guys are doing. It’s just as simple as that. I hope just for a minute that folks can just smile and have a good time. Maybe we give them a little taste of home.”

Of his passion for performing at military bases, Adkins says, “It feels like just yesterday when I first went out. No matter how many times I go out, or which countries and bases I visit, it never gets old. As long as they are out there serving our nation and sacrificing their lives … I’ll continue to tour with the USO.”

Adkins recently revealed a brand-new song, "Lit," which follows his previous single, "Jesus and Jones." Both of the songs will be on Adkins’ forthcoming record.
