TxDOT’s Annual ‘Drink. Drive. Go To Jail.’ Campaign

TxDOT

With the Labor Day weekend coming up, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has launched their annual ‘Drink. Drive. Go To Jail.’ campaign, which focuses on informing drivers that if you drive drunk, you’ll face some very severe consequences.

According to TxDOT’s website, there is a traffic crash in Texas every 20 minutes involving a driver who was under the influence of alcohol. In 2013, 16 fatalities were reported over the Labor Day weekend caused by someone who was drinking and driving. That number could go up even higher. That’s why law enforcement will be stepping up their game to arrest divers who have had too much to drink.

“Drinking and driving puts you and others at risk of being killed or injured,” said John Barton, TxDOT deputy executive director. “At the very least, you can face expensive fines, jail time and loss of your driver’s license. It’s just not worth it and it’s entirely preventable.”

It’s very simple, folks. If you drink, just don’t drive – even if it’s just a few drinks.

If you do find yourself without a ride home, there are several other options besides getting behind the wheel of a vehicle. In fact, TxDOT has a website called SoberRides.org, which gives you the option to find a taxi, call a friend, or even post on social media that you need a ride.
