‘Up All Night’ Hires ‘Nurse Jackie’ Creator for Three-Camera Relaunch

Up All Night Season 2 Three Camera Linda Wallem
NBC

Though few were surprised to see that NBC would take action to curb ‘Up All Night‘s’ ratings downfall, no one quite expected that the network would put the Will Arnett/Christina Applegate-fronted comedy on hiatus to re-tool from a single-camera effort to a three-camera sitcom. The new format is no guarantee of success, but should be in good hands now that NBC has tapped former ‘Nurse Jackie‘ showrunner Linda Wallem to manage the show in its new incarnation. Will you watch a re-tooled ‘Up All Night’?

More news on the evolution of NBC’s ‘Up All Night’ today, which was recently announced to be shutting down production in order to re-tool itself into a three-camera laugh tracked sitcom in the vain of ‘The Big Bang Theory,’ or even ‘Guys With Kids.’ According to Deadline, the show will part ways with current showrunner Tucker Cawley, and replace him with ‘Nurse Jackie’ co-creator and former showrunner Linda Wallem.

The series will air its tenth and eleventh episodes of the season next week, before shutting down to film the remaining five episodes in the new three-camera format. Departing showrunner Cawley, despite an extensive background in family sitcoms, will move to a consulting producer position on ‘The Mindy Project‘ as part of his deal with Universal TV.

What say you? Do you think ‘Up All Night’ has a better shot as a three-camera sitcom? Will ‘Nurse Jackie’s’ Linda Wallem bring anything new to the table?
