Walk With Pride is an annual program that helps provide a new pair of back-to-school shoes for Big Country students. ‘Walk With Pride’ is a cooperative effort of the Salvation Army and the Abilene Association of Realtors. The program has been going on for over 25 years and is available to all children ages 4 through 12 years of age, the kids must be enrolled in head-start thru the 5th grade. Here’s how to apply.

Anyone can apply for the shoes no matter what the family income is, but one must produce a valid social security card for that student . There is a limit of one pair of shoes and one pair of socks per student. You can pick up an application at the Salvation Army located at 1726 Butternut in Abilene, they’re open until 10 p.m. weekdays. Applications must be  turned in by no later than August 5th at 7 p.m. Once approved the parents or legal guardians will be notified beginning August 6th.  For further information or if you have any further questions call the Salvation Army at (325)-677-1408.
