Warner Bros. Is Making Another ‘Invasion of the Body Snatchers’ Reboot

Invasion of the Body Snatchers is an undeniable sci-fi classic, the O.G. one-of-us-in-this-room-isn’t-human narrative, which is probably why it’s been remade so many, many times. The original 1954 novel The Body Snatchers by Jack Finney inspired the 1956 Don Siegel film, which was then remade in 1978, in 1993, and agin in 2007 with Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman (The Invasion). So it should come as no surprise that Warner Bros. is making plans to reboot the story for the modern era.

Deadline reports that producer Jon Davis and Warner Bros. scribe David Leslie Johnson (Orphan, The Conjuring 2) are teaming up for the remake. Johnson also has The Conjuring 3 and A Nightmare on Elm Street under his belt, so he’s definitely an old hand at the horror game. And this is such a cool story that any horror or sci-fi fan would want to get his hands on a screenwriting deal.

Two of four Body Snatchers films have been successful, with those that came out in later years having lost some of the charm and panache of the original and the ingenious 1978 cult-themed version. The original involves an alien race that places pods near peoples homes that mature into fully-formed copies of the humans they imitate, with none of the personality or characteristics that make humans, well, human. It shouldn’t be too hard for two old hands at producing and writing horror to get this one right. All you really need for a creepy story is a roomful of people who may or may not be alien clones.
