West Texas native and Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill was drafted by the Miami Dolphins 8th overall in the 2012 NFL Draft. He goes down in history as the first Aggie quarterback ever taken in the first round.

“It takes my breath away”, said Tannehill, moments after hearing his name called out by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. “To see my name on the back of an NFL jersey and in an organization like the Miami Dolphins, I couldn’t be more excited”.

This kid is truly a class act. His hometown of Big Spring already knows this, and the city of Miami is going to find this out very soon.

What’s more, this is a great situation for Ryan Tannehill. He will be reunited with his college head coach, Mike Sherman. He will be working with a good offensive line that should help keep him healthy while he catches up with the speed of the NFL. And the Dolphins are not as far from being good as some might think. They won 6 of their last 9 games last season (after starting 0-7). And they don’t have a quarterback to speak of aside from Tannehill, so he stands to be the starter, if not right away, then very soon.

After he signs a multi-million dollar contract, Tannehill will be responsible for bringing the Miami Dolphins back to the glory they haven’t seen since Dan Marino retired. There are about 25,000 new Dolphins fans about 90 miles west of Abilene who believe that will happen.

Will you follow the Dolphins this year, now that Ryan Tannehill is their quarterback?
