Men's Health Magazine recently did a story on the coolest attractions for every state. When it comes to Texas we have a lot to choose from; we have far West Texas, the Panhandle, the piney woods of East Texas, the Southern coast line and the Central Texas Hill Country. With a state so rich in history and variety, what do you think our coolest attraction is?The attraction the magazine chose is one full of history and the back drop to a number of movies; most notable is a John Wayne movie. In 1863 General Santa Anna's army were outside the this building fighting against 13 brave men who stood their ground to defend their beloved Texas. Three of those men were Jim Bowie, Col. William Travis and Davy Crockett.

I'm, of course, talking about the Alamo located in San Antonio. The Alamo has stood strong for more than 300 years as a sign of Texas' freedom and liberty. More than 2.5 million people visit the Alamo annually. Located in downtown San Antonio, the Alamo is a 4.2 acre complex that boasts gardens, a gift shop, provides educational programs and houses exhibits of the Texas Revolution and Texas History and is a Shrine of Texas Liberty.

The Alamo operates all but 2 days a year, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. So the next time you are in Texas, and San Antonio specifically, do not pass up the opportunity to visit this sacred ground known simply as..the Alamo!
