Which Basketball Team Really Wants Mariano Rivera to Play for Them?
With his baseball career coming to a close, New York Yankees reliever and future Hall of Famer Mariano Rivera could very well move on to another sport to dominate.
The veteran closer, who will retire at the end of the season, was selected by the Harlem Globetrotters in the team’s annual draft on Tuesday.
The Globetrotters, which often select non-basketball players, explained the decision to pick Major League Baseball’s all-time saves leader:
And in the fourth quarter, when the Globetrotters need to close out a game, who better than the best closer of all-time? Mariano Rivera has made a living by finishing off opponents. We always have a place on our roster for winning athletes with that kind of mindset.
While Mo will best be remembered for his acumen with the famed cutter he throws, we would love to see him on the court, pulling an anti-Jordan by going from the diamond to the hardwood.
The team’s other notable selection in this year’s draft was Baylor women’s star Brittney Griner, who has already spurned the squad to join the WNBA.
