Make no mistake about it, the state of Texas is a melting pot for music of the world. The Lone Star State is home to some of the greatest music of all genres. From country and western swing music, to blues, rock and heavy metal. From tejano to americana, even hip hop and rap, Texas welcomes it all with open arms. Texas has a rich music history that is discussed in college classrooms, saloons and dancehalls. What makes Texas music great is also what creates a bit of a dilemma. I have been in several spirited discussions with fellow music lovers about what Texas artist is the greatest of all time. But the more we discuss, the longer the list gets. The longer the list gets, the further we get from drawing a conclusion.

So many legendary artists and music pioneers to choose from, and so many greats who are in their prime.  Willie, Miranda Lambert, Bob Wills, George Strait, Kevin Fowler, ZZ Top, Pantera, Stevie Ray, The Texas Tornados, Roy Orbison, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Buddy Holly, Janis Joplin.

That’s just off the top of my head. See what I mean? Wikipedia has a tough time with this subject, too.

I want to open up the discussion and hear from everybody. This is your chance to tell me who is the greatest Texas artist or band of all time?
